Garreth A. DeVoe joined the firm after earning his J.D. and M.B.A. from Tulane University. His primary practice is in commercial, maritime, and insurance defense litigation. Garreth provides highly effective legal representation through an aggressive and analytical approach to litigation, application of legal acumen, and timely communication with each client throughout every stage of litigation.

Having consulted or worked for business clients in a mix of industries on four continents through business school projects, Garreth brings global and practical experience and insight to his practice. Specifically, he understands that corporate agreements do not always work as intended in a complex global market, and that effective legal representation goes beyond merely winning at trial. It also requires knowing when to counsel for a resolution that both minimizes the risks inherent in litigation and, significantly, preserves clients’ national and international business-to-business relationships.

Garreth assists in representing oilfield service providers, pipeline transportation and energy storage companies, regional oil and gas exploration firms, and one of the world’s largest platform and rig companies, as well as their underwriters and other insurance companies. He is currently involved in traditional litigation as well as arbitration proceedings on breach of contract claims, vessel hire claims, and property losses, and has rendered legal opinions on energy contracts, indemnity contracts, vessel charters, insurance policies, and other commercial documents.

Garreth remains well aware that his clients constantly strive to lower their litigation expense while still retaining high quality representation. Garreth DeVoe provides this cost-effective and high quality representation.

Outside of the courtroom, Garreth enjoys playing tennis and running in Buffalo Bayou Park. He is also dedicated to historic preservation and the support of the arts in Houston, and is a contributing member of the Houston Symphony Society, Houston Museum of Fine Arts, and Houston Heritage Society. Having studied music at the university level and performed as a solo pianist, Garreth is also an avid attendee of Steinway & Sons’ local studio concerts.
